MO’RHYTHM School of Percussion is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization founded by Monette Marino. The organization began in 1995 as Baraka Int’l Arts and in 1999 became Tam Tam Mandingue USA. Our school is known for its holistic and all-encompassing approach to teaching. In addition to drumming techniques and rhythms, students also learn about African traditional songs, stories and folklore, cultural history and the significance of music and dance in daily village life.

Mission Statement:
MO’RHYTHM School of Percussion is dedicated to fostering interest and participation in traditional West African cultural art forms of drumming and dance, as well as preserving and transmitting the Mandingue musical tradition as tools to promote tolerance, understanding, equality, and international peace.

Location and Services:
Located in San Diego, California, MO’RHYTHM School of Percussion has been offering fun, interactive, community-oriented drum classes for Beginning through Advanced drummers since 1995. Director/Teacher Monette Marino inspires her students through her own joy, enthusiasm, and love of drumming.  She shares information clearly, breaking it down in a very informal and accessible way, and putting students of all levels at ease.  Check out our Facebook page to read about our students’ experiences in their own words.

In addition to ongoing classes, MO’RHYTHM School of Percussion has hosted workshops for internationally known master artists including Mamady Keita, Famoudou Konaté, Moustapha Bangoura, Mabiba Baegne, and more.  MO’RHYTHM School of Percussion teachers and drum students have also performed for community events, played for drum classes, and participated in school (elementary – college) and library programs.
